Bright Lights. Longs Nights. City Life.

I can see my apartment. :)

I am a country girl. My mother and I once counted forty trees in our front yard. It was common for my neighbors to have a beautiful home, accompanied with a barn full ofย gorgeous horses. So, there in the town of Matoaca, I was well protected and it was easy for me to stay out of trouble. At age seventeen, my mother finally decided to remove the parental controls from the television, and I fell in love with “Sex and the City”. Carrie Bradshaw’s life was so intriguing to me. I wondered if women really led those kinds of lives. I always knew that I wanted to be a writer. I knew that I would experience more if I relocated to a bigger city. I would dream of having a loft, and being able to look out my window and see bright, city lights. I wanted to be in college pursuing a major that involved writing. I wondered why is it was so exciting to get dressed up, drink, and socialize with people? This was a common staple among Carrie Bradshaw and her friends. Well, I am twenty-five now. I have a one bedroom loft in Shockoe Bottom, a neighborhood infused with art, entertainment, and the best nightclubs in the city. I am in college, pursuing an English major. Shoes are my absolute weakness, and I have three, wonderful, and eclectic close female friends. We love. We cry. Our lives go in different directions at times, but we always make sure to keep the bond. We do not drink Cosmos..Vodka is a must at all of our gatherings. I think my growth would have been stunted just a tad, staying in the country. Not to say that country living is a negative thing, but I would have never met some of the people who are in my life today. I walk the city and I see a homeless man digging through a garbage can for food. I meet complete strangers who spaz out on others, for no reason at all due to their own unhappiness. The hospitality that my peers and I all shared among each other during our childhood is not a common trait here. So, I try to keep a tough exterior, and avoid any heartbreak. We know how that goes. I do find myself looking at my collection of shoes, and letting out a sigh of complete happiness. And unfortunately, like Carrie, I still continue to believe in true love no matter how much past relationships have hurt me. I do believe in meeting someone who I just completely click with, and I do believe in fate. But that might just be the romanticist and writer in me talking. Mr. Big, where are you? I hope I did not just jinx myself into getting left at an altar…

Go, on Ms. Carrie!
The Diva, Carrie Bradshaw.
Domo. :)
